At the last IT Services All Staff Briefing, Mark introduced you to the work that’s happening developing the IT Services Digital Strategic Framework. The IT, or Digital Strategy will help us ensure that we are supporting delivery of the University’s overarching vision, Birmingham 2026.
Since the last All Staff Brief, Mark has presented the University’s Registrar and Secretary, Lee Sanders, with a Digital Strategy Discussion Paper for review. Lee agrees with its overall direction, so now our consultation phase with students, academics, researchers, professional services staff, and most importantly, you – begins.
Get Involved
Very soon, we’re hosting a series of market stalls where we’ll ask students for their ideas around the shape of IT at the University of Birmingham in 2026. We want to know, from a tech perspective, what would make their lives easier? What’s most important to them about IT during their time at University? Where do they think our priorities should lie?
We’d like staff from all areas of IT come along to help out with these sessions and are offering everyone with the opportunity to get involved. We’re asking for one hour of your time to come along and help man the stall in a central location for an hour. During that time, you’ll have the opportunity to talk to students about their IT needs and ideas.
Then, in July, we’re hosting a series of Strategy Workshops specifically for IT Services colleagues. At these two hour sessions, we’ll consider the needs of our various customer groups and how we, as the experts, can best enable the technology that will help make important things happen over the coming years.
We’ll also ask you to consider the issues and challenges we’re aware of that might prevent us from achieving our long term goals and think about the ways we can work toward resolving them.
Please register your interest for either the IT Services Staff Workshops or a Student Market Stall using this Microsoft Form so that we know numbers and can make the appropriate bookings.
Using your feedback and that of the academics, researchers, students, and professional services staff we consult with over the next three months, we’ll then draft the final strategic framework.
You’ll have a further opportunity to comment on the framework later in the year, before it’s finalised, in a series of Lunch and Learns, as well as access to the draft document and a feedback form.
We aim to finalise the IT Services Digital Strategic Framework early in the new academic year.
