National Apprenticeships week fell on 3 to 7 February this year. Several apprentices from IT Services were involved in events marking the week.
The first event, held in the Rotunda above the Bramall Music Hall, was an Open Day where apprentices could showcase the brilliant work they do. Jared Alforque and Mitchell Hodgson from the Service Desk, and Shawn Webster from the EPS IT Team, all attended this event.
Jared then joined Caleb Wright, Apprenticeship Scheme Manager, as an ambassador for the University at the Apprenticeships Fair at Villa Park on Wednesday 5 February. The event is aimed at young people, their teachers and parents, and provides an opportunity for students to meet current apprenticeship ambassadors and find out what it’s really like to be an apprentice. This includes what you can earn, what a typical day is like, what you learn on the job, and how to find apprenticeships.
Jared said of the event: “There was a lot of genuine interest [in doing an apprenticeship at the University] from potential apprentices and their parents.”
