from humble beginnings….

Welcome to a new project for the University of Birmingham called the ‘Cultural Calendar’. This project had humble beginnings in the School of Languages, Cultures, Art History and Music (LCAHM). In LCAHM, there is a wealth of cultural and international knowledge and experiences which students and academics were dying to share with the wider College of Arts and Law. The Calendars beginnings involved small events celebrating popular cultural celebration, Chinese New Year, Cherry Blossom Festival, Dia de los Muertos .

As the popularity of these events grew, so did the desire to share them with a wider audience. The LCAHM project grew to a college project, which has now grown to a University wider project, funded by all the colleges at UoB.

This is a fantastic opportunity for students and staff across the University and members of the local community to share the way they celebrate their culture in the community and we invite everyone and anyone to share their cultural celebrations with the campus.
We will be sharing content online including videos, blog posts and images, but we are open to all community submitted content.

If you would like to share an insight into your culture, please contact N.F.Gallen@bham.ac.uk.

The on campus events we will be celebrating this year will be:

24th October: United Nations Day

7th November: Diwali

6th February: Chinese New Year

6th March: Carnival

22nd May: African Union Day

We look forward to bringing you exciting content and events over the coming year.

Thanks,

Cultural Calendar Project Team
