Work continues apace on New Core, the programme to transform HR, Payroll, and Finance systems across the University.

The New Core team held more than 90 workshops in 2016, gathering feedback and information from Birmingham Professional and Academic colleagues to discuss and determine the data, design, and delivery needs of each function. This consultative and collaborative approach continues into 2017.

The Finance Workstream have recently completed more than 20 functional prototyping sessions to examine requirements for a range of functions from projects to purchase orders. The HR Workstream is working closely with suppliers on build for the first phase of system functionality that will include Payroll and Recruitment.

The IT Workstream activity is also continuing at pace. Thanks again to all IT Services colleagues who have supported activity by providing consultation and feedback at workshops and data gathering sessions. The current focus for the workstream is integration development, data migration preparation and service development planning, which is being supported by the University and programme suppliers, Oracle Fusion. Data cleansing is also underway, and Task Boards have been created in Service Now for completing this activity.

New Core colleagues have also attended many 1-2-1 and team meetings in departments across campus, please do email the New Core team if you would like them to present at an upcoming departmental meeting. The team have also launched many ways for you to share your feedback on the programme including intranet pages, and a Twitter account.

Get involved: There are plenty of ways that you can get involved in the development of New Core systems and provide feedback on new processes. Members of New Core staff groups will have the opportunity to view demos, trial new software and provide feedback on functionality. Regular ‘Town Hall’ meetings will also be held to provide the latest updates and New Core news. If you would like to join a New Core User Reference or Champion Group please email: newcore@contacts.bham.ac.uk.
