Application Services and the Project Office are working with the supplier QuantumIT, to provide the University with a smart, integrated learning placement solution called the ‘Placement Portal’.
A placement is a set of activities held outside normal University activity and is conducted by a third party such as a hospital, or local authority social services. The University currently has a multitude of processes and systems for managing placements, ranging from paper-based processes, excel spreadsheets and Access databases. The new portal will provide a single location for placement related information for College administrative staff, academics, students and external placement providers.
Our teams are working to ensure the new system delivers the services required to meet staff and student expectations, whilst also enabling the University to efficiently manage the placement provision. As part of this activity, a working group has been setup to form a centralised virtual team comprising of College administrative staff and IT support from Commercial Sustenance, for technical issues and queries.
Phase one of the portal project is already complete with core functionality now operational in Medical and Dental Sciences (MDS), College of Social Sciences (COSS) and Life and Environmental Sciences (LES). A small cohort of nursing students will pilot the new system, as of Monday 7 August.
Next Steps
The final two stages of the Placement Portal will be delivered across the University as follows:
Phase 2 (September 2017): Remaining functionality will be operational for MDS, COSS and LES
Phase 3 (Early 2018): College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS) and College of Arts and Law (CAL) will be operational
