Summer picnic and winner of the ‘who in IT’ quiz

Published: Posted on

Yesterday’s IT Services’ summer picnic was  a great success. Many of you took time out of your busy day to eat picnic food, play fun games, smash the pinata and generally just relax and chat with  colleagues over at the ERI building and the surrounding garden area.

A huge thanks to everyone on the ITS Social Committee for helping organise the event and making it such fun. The Social Committee are always looking for more  volunteers so if you would like to get involved in helping design and organise future staff social events then complete the Social Sign Up form on the ITS Social Teams site.

Picnic Quiz Winners

At the Summer Picnic, we asked how well you knew your IT colleagues, presenting fifteen facts about our team mates and asking you to find out ‘Who in IT’ was responsible for each fact.

Every entrant guessed correctly, that Richard Clayton owns more suits than socks, and most knew that Ian Marsden has played on two professional football pitches. Three entries guessed that the person in IT who has sworn at Justin Bieber could be Cathie Dingwall, however, they guessed wrong. That achievement was in fact made by Craig Crowe.

Four entries knew that Andrew Guest used to be a bingo caller, while six people were aware that Brigit Ayling was chased down the road by Rod Hull and Emu during her first year at University. She did manage to outrun them. Debbie Carter is a World Record Holder, Mitchell Button is related to Jenson, and Paul Gascoyne is a third degree Black Belt Martial Artform instructor.

Ronald Reagan once received a letter from Mat Butcher, asking him for a pair of cowboy boots; Dominic Cross enjoys whittling (but is absolutely convinced he’ll cut one of his fingers off by accident one day); and Gavin Williams is a level three kayak coach. Faith Thomas won not one, but two Blue Peter badges; and Natalie Gibbons was her home town’s Bonny Baby at eight months of age. Whilst we have a few band members in IT Services, Shawn Smith was lead singer of his, and Keith Evans still has the six foot wooden sword he built to carry when cosplaying as a medieval knight.

The winning entry, with nine correct answers out of fifteen, came from the Service Management Team, consisting of Faith Thomas, Anthony Steer, Chris Miles, Ian Bowman, Nikki Dutton and Shawn Smith. But this was supposed to be an individual participant competition, and two of the questions were about members of their team so unfortunately they’re disqualified on technicalities…

The top individual entry, therefore our very worthy winner was (drum roll please) Mike Smith. Congratulations Mike! Amazon voucher heading your way…

Winning entries for the general knowledge quiz in equal first place with maximum points are The Fake Jess’s and Biztalk – No Jokes. Winning team captains – please make yourselves known to its-communications@……
