Congratulations to Professor John Terry and Dr Caroline Gillett who have successfully secured a dedicated award of £170K from EPSRC’s Public Engagement call focused on Information and Communications Technologies (ICT).
The project will see members of the Centre for Systems Modelling & Quantitative Biomedicine (SMQB) working with artists, people with lived experience of disease and engagement practitioners to build digital skills confidence in diverse young people in the Birmingham region. Hands-on learning opportunities will demonstrate the everyday relevance of maths and computing skills to societal healthcare challenges such as understanding brain states and hormone dynamics. The project will also share learning through an open symposium designed by and for the wider ICT research community.
The team would welcome involvement from other IMSR researchers passionate about engaging the next generation of young scientists in quantitative techniques such as basic coding, data handling and creative visualisations.
