IT Services Health and Wellbeing: Take time out for yourself, try something new! ‘Week of Wellbeing’ 09-13 October

Published: Posted on

Find out what’s happening on campus for you to get involved with and visit during the University’s ‘Week of Wellbeing’, from Monday 09 to Friday 13 October. There are lots of free activities running for staff, plus you can get advice on useful tools to improve your personal wellbeing.

The Week of Wellbeing will be themed on the Five Ways to Wellbeing, with a different one dedicated to each day.

Health and wellbeing in IT Services

So far, in IT Services, we’ve been focusing on ‘Be Active’ with lunchtime walks. These are going to continue – weather permitting – but we’ll also be joining in with some other activities across the University. We’ll be focusing on how to ‘Keep Learning’ this month!

You can find out more by joining our Facebook group or the ITS-Wellbeing mailing list. Just email its-wellbeing-owner@lists.bham.ac.uk to request to join!

‘Keep Learning’

‘Try something new. Rediscover an old interest. Sign up for that course. Take on a different responsibility at work. Fix a bike. Learn to play an instrument or how to cook your favourite food. Set a challenge you will enjoy achieving. Learning new things will make you more confident as well as being fun.’

Suggested activity

On Thursday 12 October, there is a University Staff Singers taster session. This is a weekly session which runs from 12.30-1.30pm in the Barber Concert Hall. There is no requirement for prior experience or the ability to read music – it’s just a fun opportunity for all staff to give singing a try!

Staff are welcome to join in as they please – there is no pressure to come every week; it’s a chance to sing along on a Thursday lunchtime and get away from the desk.

What else could you do, to keep learning?
  • Visit one of the campus museums or art gallery
  • Attend a lecture or seminar to find out about research at the University
  • Go to a concert or show at the Bramall Music Building
  • Take up a new hobby or more regularly take time out for a current one
  • Read a book or listen to a podcast
We want to hear your ideas!

If there is an activity you’d like to see introduced for IT Services to keep learning, let us know! Email its-voice@contacts.bham.ac.uk to submit your suggestions.
