College of Social Sciences IT team restructure

Published: Posted on

The College of Social Sciences IT team has undergone a restructuring. They have also moved location and are now based in offices on the 12th Floor of the Muirhead Tower, and within the Business School. The changes came into effect on Monday 14 August, and the team moved into their new offices on 29 September.

What has changed?

Previously, the team’s responsibilities were split by School. Front Office staff each looked after their own School, with limited sharing of knowledge and processes amongst the team. Meanwhile, Back Office staff were under pressure to divide their resource between the Schools.

Now, the team has been centralised and provides holistic support to the entire College. Front Office staff are assigned jobs across the College, giving them the opportunity to broaden their experience whilst providing consistency in approach to staff and students across the different Schools.

This has made it easier to allocate Back Office staff time to each of the different services they look after. The new Research and Education team works closely with the College, feeding through requests for services to enhance the quality of research and teaching delivered.

These changes have brought the Social Sciences IT team’s working practices into alignment with the new End User Services strategy and the College’s Strategic Framework.

New team structure

On the 12th floor of Muirhead Tower, Anthony Ford remains in his role as College IT Manager.

Nisar Yasin has taken up a new role as IT Manager for Support – leading a team of Desktop Support Specialists to manage the Front Office Support role of the College IT Team.

David Cottam is now the IT Manager for Education and Research – supporting the College’s ambitions to grow its research activity and support the planned growth of teaching in what is already the largest teaching College.

Over in the Business School, Bill Firth is now IT Manager for Servers and Services – supported by a team of Desktop and Server Specialists, to develop services and Back Office functions.
