We Are IMSR Community Festival

In 2021 the IMSR established the Community Action Team (CAT) who support public engagement with our research portfolio.

A key activity of the CAT team is the planning, coordination and delivery of our ‘We Are IMSR Community Festival’ – an annual event which brings together many of the different research groups and themes across the IMSR for a day(s) of joint community engagement. Whilst the event is aimed at raising awareness of what research the IMSR does and the types of careers and roles which exist in our institute and university, it also has broader aims to ensure science is represented within society alongside other cultural activities such as music, dance, food and performance. Science is part of culture not seperate from it!

We Are IMSR Community Festival is also an opportunity for our staff, students and other collaborators who may not work directly together to get to know each other more through teamwork and fun activities with a social cause.

  • In 2021 we hosted hybrid workshops with schools for children aged 8-10 (supported by Society for Endocrinology funding) as well as a programme of online events for wider audiences which all took place in the same week
  • In 2022 we ran a whole host of families friendly activities on our IMSR stalls at CoCoMad Festival and you can read more about this here. Futhermore, Society for Endocrinology funding also enabled Punith Kempegowda to again run hybrid schools workshops for young people aged 14-15 with support from talented medical students and several other IMSR researchers who joined virtually.

Some photos of previous activities are below and CAT will be planning this year’s event soon. So watch this space!
