We’re looking for volunteers to help re-launch the R User Group at the University of Birmingham. This Special Interest Group (SIG) will bring together R users from across the University to share knowledge and skills.
R is a popular programming language with many applications and excellent tools for reproducible research. To support R users from across the University, we would like to set up a University-wide R User Group. This group will connect R Users from different domains, promote the use of the R language and help users to share knowledge, skills and best practices in R programming.
As a first step, we are looking for volunteers to help organise the R User Group starting in Spring 2026.
Why volunteer?
Volunteering with us offers a chance to connect with R Users from across the University, enhance your skills and add to your CV. It’s also a great way to stay up to date with the latest developments in R!
What will the Organising Committee do?
As part of the Organising Committee, you will help to plan and run R User Group activities e.g. by helping to arrange presenters, moderating discussions or promoting R User Group events to colleagues.
Time commitment
The Organising Committee will meet monthly to plan activities, requiring approximately 1-3 hours per month of your time.
Getting involved
We welcome volunteers from postgraduate research students, academics, and staff from all staff groups. All levels of R expertise (novice – expert) are welcome.
Our first Organising Committee meeting is scheduled for the week beginning Monday 16 February. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact us by 5pm on Wednesday 11 February to learn more. We look forward to hearing from you!
