We are recruiting four new Grade 8 roles to help shape and support this ambitious national-scale project, offering the chance to work with cutting‑-edge‑ technology, largescale GPU infrastructure, and innovative research across a world‑class university. As these posts are linked to specific research funding, they will be fixed‑term for five years.

Baskerville Operations and Resource Manager
We are seeking to appoint a Baskerville Operations and Resource Manager on a five-year contract to join the Advanced Research Computing (ARC) team.
The Baskerville Operations and Resource Manager will play a central administrative and organisational role within the ARC team, ensuring the smooth operation, effective resourcing, and overall success of Baskerville NCR. The postholder will work closely with technical, administrative, and research colleagues across the University, requiring strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills to identify issues early and promote best practice. They will support senior leaders through UKRI reporting and a range of administrative tasks, oversee usage and performance statistics, and liaise with Finance and Research Strategy teams on cost management and reporting – demanding strong analytical, numerical, and stakeholder‑management capabilities. The role also involves identifying funding opportunities, contributing to business cases, coordinating activity across ARC, and maintaining oversight of priorities and staffing. Overall, the position requires excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, the ability to manage complex workflows, and confidence working with diverse stakeholders in a dynamic research environment. This is a full‑time, five year fixed‑term role from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2031.
Senior Engagement and Training Coordinator
Advanced Research Computing (ARC) are seeking to appoint a Senior Engagement and Training Coordinator to join our Researcher Engagement and Data Group, the group responsible for ensuring that researchers are aware of all the research computing services available to them, and that they have sufficient training to effectively use them.
The Senior Engagement and Training Coordinator role centres on engagement and training for Baskerville NCR, supporting a wide network of researchers across the UK while also supporting research communities within the University. It requires excellent communication and relationship building skills to raise awareness of Baskerville NCR, promote uptake across diverse research areas, and connect users with the right expertise. Strong coordination and organisational abilities are essential, with the postholder responsible for planning and managing effective training activities. Success in the role also relies on the ability to work collaboratively across teams, understand researcher needs, and foster an inclusive, supportive community environment. This is a full‑time, five year fixed‑term role from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2031.
Senior Research Infrastructure Engineer (Cybersecurity)
Advanced Research Computing (ARC) are seeking to appoint a Senior Research Infrastructure Engineer with expertise in cybersecurity on a five-year contract to join our Architecture, Infrastructure and Systems group, the group responsible for the design, installation and operation of large-scale research infrastructure.
The SRIE (Cybersecurity) will support the secure operation of the Baskerville NCR supercomputing infrastructure, applying a risk-based and pragmatic approach suited to diverse computational workloads. The role requires strong Linux system administration skills, broad computing knowledge and experience in operational cybersecurity. Key responsibilities include prioritising and mitigating security risks and securing complex environments while maintaining resilience. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the capacity to work collaboratively within a specialist technical team are essential. This is a full‑time, fixed‑term role from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2031.
Senior Research Software Engineer (Automation and DevOps)
Advanced Research Computing (ARC) are seeking a highly-skilled Senior Research Software Engineer with expertise in automation and DevOps to play a leading role in designing, delivering and supporting the services managed by Advanced Research Computing at the University of Birmingham. You will join the BEAR Applications team (part of the Research Software Group) and also work closely with ARC’s Architecture, Infrastructure and Systems Group to help shape and enhance the systems underpinning our headline services, including the upcoming Baskerville NCR and the University’s local high‑performance computing systems. In this technically focused role, you will develop and maintain Python middleware, web applications, automated workflows, CI pipelines, containerised deployments, and associated documentation while troubleshooting complex issues and contributing to project planning and continuous improvement across all of ARC’s services.
Alongside your technical responsibilities, you will line‑manage a DevOps Engineer and contribute to a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative team culture.
