With enormous thanks to our Estates project manager, we can confirm that the lights have gone on in the new Research Data Centre. This means ‘all systems are go’ for the BEAR migration 17th to 26th May as previously announced. See the service impacts summary published on 8th March ‘Important! Extended Service Impacts for BEAR May 17th to May 26th 2018‘ and keep in touch with us via the Blog and by following us on twitter leading up to and during the move).
Work on the construction site will continue right up to 15th May as all the specialist building services such as fire detection/suppression, backup electrical power, security systems, cooling etc are commissioned, tested and handed over. Training for our staff too will also happen over the next 3 weeks in readiness for the new operation.
Please be aware that the Team is devoting significant effort to complete the prep of BEAR infrastructure and systems. This necessarily means slower than usual response on BEAR tickets. Please bear 🙂 with us. This is a once in a decade task and the new home will, in the end, deliver huge benefits for Birmingham’s researchers.
