  • 1-3 July, Anne Green attended the Population Geography conference in Belfast.
  • 8-12 July, Sara Hassan and Annum Rafique attended the U21 Early Career Inclusive Energy Transitions workshop in Brisbane, and Sara presented research about inclusivity, communities and sustainable transport in the energy transition.
  • 9 July, Bec Riley spoke at the UPEN Policy Conference, looking at the future of UK devolution & how academic policy engagement can help drive & shape the agenda.
  • 11 – 12 July, Fumi Kitagawa attended the Cambridge Journal of Regions, Economy and Society annual conference.
  • 16 July, Anne Green and Bec Riley hosted a WMCA/SQW Megatrends foresight/horizon scanning workshop.
  • 16 July, Bec Riley joins the panel for Impact in Action: Women Shaping Regional Policy and Business at the Exchange.

  • 7 July, Matt Lyons was featured in the Irish Mail on Sunday and the Irish Sun for his comments on the financial impact of Taylor Swift Eras Tour.
  • 11 – 14 July, Darja Reuschke and Donald Houston were mentioned in numerous articles including ones by Medical Express, Scienmag and Personnel Today, for their research with Paul Sissons on the impacts of Long COVID on workers.
Reports / publications released
  • Anne Green and Rebecca Riley have published an article with Des McNulty on how universities contribute the pride in place in the Journal of Urban Regeneration and Renewal.
  • Maryna Ramcharan, George Bramley, Anne Green, Megan Whitehouse, Deborah Youdell, James Sutton and Lloyd Hopkins have carried out an evaluative assessment of partnerships for people and place in Birmingham.

  • 8 July, Matt Lyons and Charlotte Hoole both received BBS Research Awards.
Policy engagement
  • 1 July, City-REDI hosted a meeting with the Innovate UK’s “Contracts for Innovation Community of Practitioners” at the Exchange. This is in relation to City-REDI’s work as part of the Innovation Procurement Empowerment Centre (IPEC) Research, supported by the Connected Catapult Centre.
  • 1 July, Birmingham Anchor Institutions – Rebecca Riley attended on behalf of the university of review planning for the Leaders forum later in the year and review collaborative actions.
  • 2 July, Meeting with Centre for Local Economic Strategies and Ralph Hall, Professor of Urban Affairs and Planning and Director of the School of Public and International Affairs at Virginia Tech University in the US, as well as colleagues at the Universities of Shady Grove in Maryland. To look at the civic impact of universities and different US models and comparison with UK.
  • 2 July, Rebecca Riley met with DLUHC to review a paper and recommendations written about data and the mayoral combined authorities, barriers and challenges and how legislation is required to change.
  • On 10 July, Anne Green attended the Final Business Commission West Midlands Report launch in the Churchill Room at the House of Commons hosted by the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce. Anne participated in a panel and referred to role as an Advisory Panel Member for the Report.
