There have been a lot of bogus emails claiming to be about parcel deliveries. We have given plenty of advice on spotting bogus messages, but this piece of simple advice should help avoid falling victim to even the most convincing scams.
A lot of people now appreciate that if they are not expecting a parcel, the messages are usually malicious. However, plenty of people are expecting parcels. If you are expecting a parcel and you receive a parcel scam email your first line of defence has been broken.
Even if you think a message may be real, do not click on any links in it; follow these three steps instead
- Open a browser
- Go the the parcel company’s website and find the parcel tracking page
- Type in the tracking number displayed in the email
If the message is real you will have the information. If the message is not you will see that the number does not match or at worst details of someone else’s parcel.
