Amongst the other scams and phishing emails that are around, there is a fake email based parking ticket scam being sent to people nationally. The email contains a fake parking ticket. The email claims to be from UKPC and has a link that tries to trick you into downloading malware onto your PC.
This has caused some concern on campus because UKPC manage parking tickets with the University.
The message is definitely a fake because UKPC do not issue tickets by email (see UKPC website http://www.ukparkingcontrol.com/)
The other main features which should give the message away as a fake are:
- The message does not come from a UKPC email address
- There are no vehicle details
- The wording is strange and it contains bad grammar and spelling mistakes
