Fake Email Administrator Message

Published: Posted on

Quite a few people have received a message asking you to login to “reset” their email.  This is something that IT services would never ask you to do.  It is similar to others that have asked you “verify” your email.  As it generated a few queries, I am posting an example with an explanation of characteristics that help to determine that this is a scam.  If you had clicked on the link before the website was taken down you would have seen a copy of the University web portal which was an attempt to steal your username and password.

The image shows an example of a fake invoice notification and illustrates aspects of the email that make it look suspicious.
